4 DAYS TOUR FROM MARRAKECH TO MERZOUGA DESERT

This 4-day private desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga and back offers an extraordinary journey through Morocco’s most diverse and breathtaking landscapes, making it ideal for travelers seeking a mix of culture, adventure, and comfort. You’ll cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, visit the legendary Aït Benhaddou Kasbah—a UNESCO World Heritage Site featured in numerous films—and explore Ouarzazate’s cinematic legacy. The route takes you through the fragrant Valley of Roses and the dramatic Dades and Todra Gorges, before reaching the vast dunes of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga. There, you’ll enjoy a sunset camel ride and spend the night in a traditional Berber camp with local cuisine and music under the stars. On the return journey, you’ll travel through the lush palm-lined Draa Valley, visit ancient kasbahs like Tamnougalt, and pass through charming Berber villages. The final leg includes visits to Telouet Kasbah and the scenic Ounila Valley before arriving back in Marrakech. With experienced drivers, hand-picked accommodations, and authentic cultural encounters throughout, this tour is perfect for those who want a deep, memorable, and comfortable introduction to the Moroccan Sahara and its hidden gems.

DAY 1: TRAVEL FROM MARRAKECH TO AIT BENHADDOU KASBAH AND OUARZAZATE STUDIOS TOWARDS DADES VALLEY

The private driver for your Marrakech to desert tour will take you across the Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2260m) while providing spectacular views of the mountains and Berber villages along the route. Stop for lunch and a visit to Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (This well-known kasbah has served as a setting for more than 20 films.) Pass through Ouarzazate and proceed to the Valley of Roses and the Dades Valley, the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, and the Dades Gorges, where we will spend the night.

DAY 2: TRANSPORT FROM DADES GORGES TO ERG CHEBBI NEAR MERZOUGA AND CAMEL RIDE TO CAMP

After breakfast, the journey continues through the impressive Dades Gorges, where you'll encounter stunning geological formations and ancient Berber villages nestled into the cliffs. From here, you’ll travel toward the equally dramatic Todra Gorge, a towering canyon with 300-meter-high limestone walls. This lush valley, filled with palm trees and surrounded by mudbrick villages, is a haven for hikers and photographers. After lunch near the gorge, we continue into the Sahara, heading for the small desert outpost of Merzouga. Upon arrival, you’ll meet your camel caravan and begin a memorable sunset trek across the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi—Morocco’s highest and most iconic sand dunes. After roughly an hour of riding, you'll arrive at your traditional desert camp (bivouac) where you'll be welcomed with mint tea, enjoy a freshly prepared Moroccan dinner, and spend the evening under the stars with Berber drumming and storytelling before sleeping in a nomadic camel-hair tent.

DAY 3- MERZOUGA TO OURZAZATTE :

Rise early for the opportunity to watch the sunrise over the golden dunes, a truly breathtaking sight as light and shadows dance across the Sahara. After a light breakfast and camel ride back to Merzouga, your journey continues westward into one of Morocco’s most scenic and lesser-known routes—the Dra’a Valley. Passing through Tazzarine (featured in the film Babel) and the village of N’Qob, you’ll stop for lunch before continuing along this ancient trade route lined with oases, date palms, and ruined kasbahs. In the afternoon, you’ll visit Kasbah Tamnougalt, one of the oldest and most authentic kasbahs in the Dra’a Valley, located near the town of Agdz. Some parts of the kasbah are well-preserved and still inhabited, while others remain as atmospheric ruins. The day's journey concludes with a scenic drive over the Tizi-n-Tinfifite Pass, descending into Ouarzazate, where you’ll spend the night in a comfortable hotel.

DAY 4 - OURZAZATTE TO MARRAKECH:

After breakfast, we begin our return to Marrakech, starting with a visit to the Kasbah Taourirt in Ouarzazate. Once home to the powerful Glaoui family—former rulers of southern Morocco—this beautifully restored kasbah offers a glimpse into 19th-century aristocratic life. From here, we take a scenic detour off the main road to revisit Aït Benhaddou, offering a final chance to explore this extraordinary site or simply enjoy the views from a new angle. The journey continues through the Ounila Valley, a picturesque route filled with lush terraced farms, hidden villages, and red rock canyons. You'll stop at the Kasbah of Telouet, another Glaoui stronghold and one of Morocco’s most ornate and historically rich kasbahs, often overlooked by mass tourism. Depending on the time, lunch can be enjoyed in Telouet or at a panoramic spot high in the Atlas Mountains. In the late afternoon, the drive resumes across the Tizi n’Tichka pass, arriving back in Marrakech in the early evening, where your desert adventure concludes.
